Soprano Evan Kardon from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has been chosen to be a Resident Artist in Florida Grand Opera’s Young Artist Program. She will be performing the role of Amor in Gluck’s Orpheo ed Euridice as well as Slave in Strauss’ Salome. In June of 2017, Ms. Kardon was honored to receive First Prize and Top Audience Choice in the Twelfth Lois Alba Competition in Houston, TX.  In the 2016-2017 season, Ms. Kardon sang with the chorus of Opera Philadelphia in both Turandot and Le Nozze di Figaro, and in the Fall she will be participating in the Komische Oper Berlin production of Die Zauberflöte. Her summer plans include returning to the Middlebury Language Institute to continue pursuing fluency in the German language, as well as singing Susanna in a condensed version of Des Hochzeit des Figaros. Ms. Kardon has participated in numerous summer Young Artist Programs. In the summer of 2016, she was a part of Opera Saratoga’s Apprentice Program where she covered the role of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, as well as performed the role of the Second Fairy in the American Premiere of Philip Glass’ The Witches of Venice. Ms. Kardon spent the previous summer in the Apprentice Artist Program at Des Moines Metro Opera covering the role of Blonde in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, as well as performing in various scenes. In the 2014 summer season, Ms. Kardon performed the role of Une Dame in Wolf Trap Opera’s production of Les Mamelles de Tirésias, as well as covered the title role. In January of 2016 she participated in the Metropolitan Council Auditions, where she received was a District Finalist. Ms. Kardon has also been a Young Artist at OperaWorks, CoOPERAtive, and IVAI in Montreal. She is thrilled to have performed the role of Poppea in L’incoronazione di Poppea, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, as well as Atalanta in Serse during her time in San Francisco. She is a graduate of Rice University with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and graduated in 2015 from San Francisco Conservatory with her Masters degree.
