The Jeff Townsend & Catherine Lippincott Finalist Award<\/h4>\n

\"\"<\/a>Tenor\u00a0Brandon Scott Russell\u00a0is a 2018 National Semi-Finalist\u00a0in the Metropolitan\u00a0Opera National Council Auditions and\u00a0has been noted to have a\u00a0\u201cStrong, ringing tenor capable of both power and feeling\u201d whose\u00a0\u201csweet tenor soared above the orchestra in a passionate and operatic performance\u201d (KC Metropolis).<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

His 2017-2018 season\u00a0consisted of multiple company and role debuts. \u00a0At the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music (CCM) Russell performed as the title role in Mozart’s\u00a0Idomeneo. \u00a0He went on to perform in Cincinnati Opera’s 2017 Summer Festival singing the roles of 1st armored man in\u00a0Die Zauberfl\u00f6te\u00a0and Parpignol in\u00a0La boh\u00e8me, while covering the leading tenor roles of Tamino and Rodolfo. \u00a0Following this, Russell\u00a0debuted with Springfield Regional Opera performing the role\u00a0of Cassio in their performance of Verdi’s\u00a0Otello.\u00a0\u00a0He returned to CCM where he\u00a0portrayed the title role in Bernstein’s\u00a0Candide. \u00a0He recently finished up his time at CCM by portraying the role of Rinuccio in\u00a0Gianni Schicchi\u00a0where he \u201cdisplayed an\u00a0exciting Italianate tenor in his aria praising Florence, with the power to soar over Puccini\u2019s voluptuous orchestra\u201d (Cincinnati Business Courier).\u00a0 In his 2018-2019 season, Russell was a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, covering Alfredo in La traviata, Mr. Marshall in Regina, and performing in the Stars of Tomorrow Concert. Immediately following, he returned to Cincinnati Opera where he performed as The Teacher in\u00a0Julien Bilodeau’s U.S. Premiere of Another Brick in the Wall where he was \u201cone of the evening\u2019s standouts\u2026 (who) wielded a big voice and stick to match\u201d (Cincinnati Biz Journal). He made his company and role debut with Winter Opera Saint Louis as Alfred in Die Fledermaus and was a Resident Artist with Knoxville Opera performing as Edgardo in a touring production of Lucia di Lammermoor.\u00a0 Upcoming, Russell will be making his Carnegie Hall debut with MidAmerica International singing as the Tenor Soloist in Haydn\u2019s Mass in C Major. Following, he is headed to San Francisco for the 2019 Merola Opera Program where he will be creating the role of David in Jake Heggie\u2019s World Premiere Opera If I were you and performing in the Merola Grand Finale Concert.\u00a0 Russell has participated across the United States in prestigious young artist programs, such as Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, The Wolf Trap Opera Company, Cincinnati Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Opera Saratoga,\u00a0and\u00a0Houston Grand Opera\u2019s Young Artist Vocal Academy.\u00a0 Russell completed his undergraduate studies at The University of\u00a0Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, where he performed in the Main Stage productions of\u00a0Dialogues des Carmelites\u00a0(Le Chevalier),\u00a0La trag\u00e9die de Carmen\u00a0(Don Jos\u00e9), and in\u00a0Die lustige Witwe (Camille de Rosillon). He completed his Masters and Artist Diploma degrees at\u00a0the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of William McGraw.\u00a0 Beyond his Mainstage experience at CCM, he was highly involved with the Opera Fusion New Works Projects, work-shopping the roles of John Doe in Catan\u2019s final opera\u00a0Meet John Doe\u00a0and Shalimar in Jack Perla\u2019s new work\u00a0Shalimar the Clown,\u00a0collaborating with Opera Theater of St. Louis and Cincinnati Opera.<\/span><\/p>\n
