A comment from our founder<\/span><\/h3>\n
Our second Aria Competition included 52 applicants from across the United States. \u00a0They were fine examples of a new generation of opera singers. \u00a0Our committee seriously considered all of the applicants before deciding to advance 36 singers to the Semi-Finals.\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n
After nine hours of auditions, our tireless Judges selected twelve Finalists to perform at the Awards Program.<\/span><\/h5>\n
Our First Place Winner and Audience Choice was Courtney Ames, from Roanoke, Virginia who offered a brilliant performance of Sieglinde’s Aria “Du bist der lenz” followed by a thrilling performance of the Ice Princess, Turandot in her entrance aria, “In questa reggia”.<\/span><\/h5>\n
Last year’s First Place Winner, Dalma Boronkai, also won the Audience Choice Award.<\/span><\/h5>\n

\u201cDear Editor: I am writing to recommend a wonderful competition in Houston in which I recently participated and won second place – the Lois Alba Aria Competition, named after retired singer Lois Alba.<\/span><\/p>\n

The competition was wonderfully organized (and it was their first year), professional,\u00a0 and\u00a0 the\u00a0 judges\u00a0 were personable.\u00a0 I had no trouble finding a rehearsal room and both the semi-finals and the finals were in excellent singing spaces.\u00a0 The competition was selective and all finalists were well trained and well prepared.\u00a0 I was very impressed with the level of singing I heard backstage and during the finals.\u00a0 Additionally, the prize money was well worth the two day time commitment.<\/span>\u201d<\/span> \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
